DEFINITIVE VERSION: THE SECRET OF MONKEY ISLAND

Point and click games matter! Not that I have to tell you extremely intelligent individuals that found this page. The secret of Monkey Island is often touted as the pinnacle of the genre, and rightfully so. It has a cast of memorable character including Bobbin Threadbare, and a monkey, and pirates I think (there has to be pirates). Oh, and puzzles, definitely puzzles. I've played this game a lot of times I know what I'm talking about.

RELEASES

DOS - 1990

PROS:	Possibly none unless you prefer lots of dithering.
CONS:	These pre-CD releases have limited color palettes and audio that hinder the overall experience.
NOTES:	Different artwork is used for close ups most likely due to the graphic limitations

ATARI ST - 1990

PROS:	Anime cut-scenes.
CONS:	Load times. Old localization.

AMIGA - 1990

PROS:	Unique soundtrack designed for amiga.
CONS:	Possible lower frame rate than other releases, but also limited graphics and audio found in the DOS CGA and EGA versions.

DOS CD - 1992

PROS:	CD quality sound and large color palette
CONS:	none

FM TOWNS - 1992

PROS:	Basically the DOS CD version but with smooth scrolling. It actually looks really cool. check it out if you can.
CONS:	Might be missing some graphics like the spinning pirate in the bar.

SEGA CD - 1993

PROS:	none
CONS:	Low quality graphics and audio.

MULTI [SPECIAL EDITION] - 2009

PROS:	Hand-drawn art, orchestral score, and voice over.
CONS:	The art style often feels bland and lacks the high contrast of delicately placed pixels.
NOTES:	There is an "Ultimate Talkie" mod that allows you to play the classic version with voice acting.

DEFINITIVE VERSION

First of all I'd like to address the monkey in the room. Get it, monkey. haha like Monkey Island. Instead of elephant. People usually say elephant. The mac version very bad not good, much blur, painful audio.

Now on to the Definitive Version:

The special edition of Monkey Island is a faithful adaptation that not only allows you to play the new version with updated hand-drawn graphics, voice over, and orchestral audio, but you can also seamlessly swap to the classic edition at any time. That being said, it is recommended by Definitive Version that you play in classic mode as its overall aesthetic captures the tone of the narrative.

RECOMMENDED MODS: If you truly want to get the best of both worlds you can modify the special edition so that it uses the voice acting while in classic mode.
